Where to start…
Summer here is a happy chaos of kids coming and going, parents visiting, pets trying to find the quietest hiding place… On the one hand, it’s chaotic, noisy, epic at times, and not-a-minute-to-yourself busy for any adult; on the other hand, it’s a wonderful family time with much, much love and sharing, and laughter, and fun. Let me explain… from early July to late August, my nieces and nephews come and go – sometimes all six of them are here at the same time, sometimes it’s only one of them, or two, or three, or four, or five… Sometimes they bring their pets (cats and dogs). Oh, and sometimes their parents are here too. It’s like an unrehearsed and unchoreographed ballet! Just thinking about it makes me dizzy… LOL
In the summer, some days, from the minute I get up to the minute I go to bed, I feel like I’m running a marathon. I truly love my sisters’ kids, all of them… except when I feel like wringing their necks after having to yell for the umpteenth time “Shower time!” or “Lunch/dinner’s ready!” To the first, the answer generally is “Later!”, to the latter, they invariably reply “In a minute!” (a minute, my ***… it’s more like fifteen to thirty, really). If they read this, they’ll know who they are. 😀
We had a very hot summer – not the kind of summers typical from around here, believe me – with temperatures ranging from 82°F (28°C – a normal summer temperature here) to 97°F (36°C – not normal at all, and feeling a lot hotter for lack of wind). Today was a rainy day. A real rainy day. It was the first we’ve had in almost three months and it was much needed. So, yeah, we had a hot and dry summer, and it probably made for a little more “drama” than usual… but enough said about that. I choose to remember the good times only. 😉
Now that Fall’s just started, I want to remember the summer nights spent looking at the planets (Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn), the buttermilk pancakes and the chocolate chips cookies, playing with water guns in the pool with my nephews and coming back home looking like a half-drowned cat, shopping and chatting with the girls… When they are here, I feel like the days are never long enough for all the cooking, cleaning and playing there is to do… and when they left, I feel like the days are too long and the house is too big. Paradoxical, I know. *sigh*
It takes me some time to get back to my own routine. Always.
Even the cats – who spend the summer trying to stay as far from the kids as they can – keep on jumping at the slightest noise almost a month after they departed. They will get over it… right before the kids will come back during Fall break. LOL
S’ils me lisent, ils se reconnaîtront. 😀
LOL
